This is what I did: (a little embarrassing but true)
#1 Called my family MD to confirm
#2 Sign up for babycentral.ca
#3 Download the "Due Date" and "Contraction Timer" app for my phone
I then bombarded myself with information about what I should and shouldn't eat, exercise, wear etc. etc.... The list of do's and dont's for an new expectant mom gets longer the more web surfing you do and can be VERY overwhelming! As can the list of things to think about when it comes to health care Obstetrician, Family MD or Midwife? Childbirth Education classes, Lactation consultants, Car seat installation, Maternity Leave, how labour and delivery will go.
When I surfaced from the sea of information and took a minute to catch my breath I realized it was sifting through all the information that made me anxious and preoccupied with pregnancy.
There is so much information how do you sift through the crap and get the good quality "decision making" information from reliable sources that you will use to make the right decisions for your family?
While chatting during a "Little Gym" class with our 2 year old sons', my colleague Doula Andrea Williams and I were inspired by this question. At the time I was expecting #2 and my husband and I had just made the decision to hire a Doula to assist with our Labour/ Birth. This got us talking about all the information and judgement in society surrounding every families maternity and birthing choices. We found out quickly that we are on the same page professionally. We provide information and let families make the choices. Whether a family's idea of a dream birth be that of a drug free natural birth, a planned C-section, epidural, or if they have no idea at all.
We decided to put our heads together and develop an event that's goal is to get expectant parents in touch with professionals in the Halton area to can answer these questions and provide support for the maternity, birthing, and post partum periods.

And the "Halton Prenatal Party" was born!
This unique event will be a forum for parents in the Halton area to meet:
Birthing Coaches, Prenatal Educators, Lactation Consultants, Yoga Instructors, Chiropractors, Nutritionists, Naturopathic Doctors, Massage Therapists, Life Coaches, and a number of area Businesses, Groups & Resources that work to provide support, recreation and social interaction during maternity and post partum.
This is not a sales event or show, and is free to attend. Expectant parents will leave with their car seat installed by a professional (for a donation of $10 to St. John's Ambulance), and a swag bag with products, coupons and connections you may find useful.
We are here to help guide you the information you want to know, in a no pressure, non- judgemental environment.
